Specs for Palladium

Here are the applicable specifications:

MIL-P-45209B

A gray, dense deposit, good for undercoats. Good wear characteristics corrosion, resistance and catalytic properties. Good conductivity.

Thickness Comments
.000050" unless otherwise specified Steel springs and other steel parts subject to flexure or repeated impact and of hardness greater than Rockwell C40 shall be heated to 375°F ±25°F for 3 hours after plating.

ASTM-B679-98

Palladium is the lightest and least noble of the platinum group of metals. With a low specific gravity compared to gold or platinum, a thicker coat with less weight is realized, but a small sacrifice in reflectivity and corrosion can be expected. Gold overplating enhances the performance of the palladium surface.

Type Class Thickness Comments
Standard 0.75µm Unless otherwise specified.
US Govt. 1.3µm Unless otherwise specified.
Nickel Underplate 1.3µm On copper or copper alloy to inhibit diffusion into the palladium; to level rough substrate; to act as a load bearing foundation; and to act as a pore corrosion inhibitor.
Possible applications 0.08 - 0.25µm Semiconductor head frames in integrated circuity.
0.25 - 0.5µm Catalyst. Electrical contacts where little adverse electrical, mechanical and environmental action is expected.
0.75-1.5µm Low-energy electrical connector contacts.
